If you are wired to the Otautau grapevine, you may have already heard that the Otautau Standards are now viewable on microfilm at the SDC office on Main Street. The Standards were published between 1905 and 1946, and the local collection has nearly all of the newspapers. This is potentially a very good source of family history information.
The Otautau Museum plans to slowly and methodically go through each volume and glean information on marriages and obituaries to create a printed index for researchers. We would've wanted to collect information on births as well, but it seems that births were not really reported in the newspaper in those days.
If you are interested or can help with this project, please let us know. The more people we have helping, the sooner the resource will get done.
