New Family History Search Tools

Am I the last to know? It seems both the Invercargill City Council and the Southland District Council have added cemetery search tools to their websites. This is one huge time- and petrol-saver! No longer do you have to wait for a council office to open to ask them to search their books or spend hours looking for a grave at a cemetery - only to never find it! Just go to their respective websites and the answers are at your fingertips.

Headstone transcriptions are found on both search tools, and the ICC has images of the headstones on theirs.

I had two requests for family information this week, and these websites helped tremendously.

We're open Wednesdays and Sundays, 2pm-4pm, and by request. Your comments are always welcome!

Museum AGM

Last night a few changes took place at our Annual General Meeting and regular meeting. After four years of service, our chairperson, Muriel Brown, who has been the heart and soul of the museum, has retired from her position, though will stay on as a trustee. John McAlister resigned as a trustee after his two-year term. We'll miss John but he said if we ever needed him, he'd help out. And two new trustees, Pam Booth and Isabel Dahlenburg, came on board. We are delighted to have them.

After the AGM, new officers were elected:
John Low, Chairperson
Cindy Bragg, Secretary/Treasurer
Graham Barkman, Publicity/Exhibition Manager
Pam Booth, Roster Manager
Cathy Onellion, Collection Manager

After the election of officers, we got on to the deep and meaningful business of museum management.
