Thanks

This year's book sale was a solid success. A big thank you to all who donated and bought books and also raffle tickets. Cathie Brown won the $100 grocery hamper raffle on Sunday (ticket drawn under police supervision).

If you'd still like to donate books, you can always drop them off at the museum. We're open Wednesdays and Sundays, 2pm-4pm, and by request. We'll save them for next year's sale.

Book Sale in Progress

A sizable crowd by mid-morning of the annual book sale, and we're running short of books - especially kids' books - so please donate if you have spare. We're open til 4pm today and from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.

The fantabulous grocery hamper will be drawn tomorrow so get in quick to buy a ticket - only $2 for $100 worth of groceries.

Wee Ones

It's been a long month since one of our founding members passed away. She did so many things around the museum that there are reminders of her everywhere. But she would not want us to tarry and wallow in sadness; she'd want us to keep going.

So we are getting on with the next display. It's called "Wee Ones," and it's all about babies and birth. We're seeking memorabilia from our community and hope to make it a good exhibition. We'd like to get started right away and have most of it up by September 1st. It will go on until March 1st 2014.

The community has already come forth with some good ideas - a 'guess the baby' contest and also a 'birthing advice' section.

Contact us if you having something you'd like to loan for this display. Anything from christening gowns to Plunket books would be wonderful but also looking for the unexpected too.

We're open Wednesdays and Sundays, 2pm-4pm, and by request. Your comments are always welcome!

Phone Books

Today we received a boon to our family history resources - 14 Southland phone books. Now and then, people ask us where their ancestors lived. We usually check the old NZ Postal Directories however there were no numbered addresses in those days. But in the future, these phone books will be invaluable to find where someone lived.

We still need more phone books though...If you have the following years, please consider donating them to us. We'll give them a good home!

Every year before 1983; then 1984, 1985, and 1989.
For the 1990s, we need: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995.

We're open Wednesdays and Sundays, 2pm-4pm, and by request. Your comments are always welcome!
